GSU has a lot of resources that are free with tuition, but a lot of people don't take advantage of them because they do a poor job of making them known. I've listed a few, but I'm sure there's more that I'm not aware of, so please add any in the comments that you know about!

Trying to figure out what's seasonal stables and what's cheapest when in my nerdy spreadsheet. And a second data set for wild foraging/home gardening.

HMS Core 5.0 Debuted on HDC, Opening Up More Capabilities
On September 10, 2020, HMS Core 5.0 made its debut at the Huawei Developer Conference. At the conference, Mr. Zhang Ping'an, President of Huawei Consumer Cloud Service, delivered a keynote speech titled "Soaring to Greater Heights, Together with HMS." As he noted, the HMS ecosystem has achieved a place among the top 3 mobile app ecosystems in the world in the short space of just one year.
Previously, HMS Core 5.0 had already been released globally. Since last year's HDC, the number of registered developers within the HMS ecosystem has increased from 0.91 million to 1.8 million, and the number of apps integrated with HMS Core has increased from 43,000 to 96,000, an increase of 123%.
HMS Core 5.0 opens up more software, hardware, and cloud capabilities, covering seven major domains including the app services, graphics, AI, and system domains. These capabilities can help developers build better apps.

Graphics: A More Vivid Graphics Experience
In the graphics domain, HMS Core 5.0 provides services like Computer Graphics Kit, Accelerate Kit, and Scene Kit, enabling developers to improve the efficiency of app development and build a better user experience.
Computer Graphics Kit provides a high-performance rendering framework and a series of rendering plug-ins. It is an open capability system based on GPU technologies. After integrating Computer Graphics Kit, game apps can improve their average frame rate by 13-16% and reduce their average power consumption by 11-13%*, offering users a better overall experience.

* Data source: Huawei labs
By integrating Computer Graphics Kit, REVELATION (a mobile game from NetEase) has been able to utilize device-side graphics algorithms like anti-aliasing, volumetric cloud, and image super-resolution to provide more immersive 3D graphics rendering effects for users.

In addition to Computer Graphics Kit, Scene Kit in the graphics domain provides multiple scenario-based APIs, helping developers achieve exquisite rendering effects more efficiently. Accelerate Kit provides developers with easy-to-use multi-thread APIs, helping them improve app performance with ease. Moreover, AR Engine provides developers with basic AR capabilities such as motion tracking, human body and face tracking, and environment tracking, enabling them to merge virtual and real world elements and by doing so build a brand-new interactive visual experience.
AI: A World Without Barriers
As AI technologies continue to develop at an unprecedented pace, smart capabilities are becoming a must-have element in a developer's arsenal. Keeping abreast of the technology trend, ML Kit helps developers build AI-powered apps to help deliver an optimal user experience.
According to Mr. Zhang Pingan, Huawei will open up all device-cloud capabilities to developers. This includes ML Kit, which provides services such as translation, text recognition, speech recognition, and face/body detection.
ML Kit in HMS Core 5.0 helps developers easily build AI-powered apps. For apps integrated with ML Kit, the speed of face/person detection increases by 70% and the accuracy of text recognition reaches 99%, delivering a smarter and more convenient experience for the user.
App Services: Allowing Developers to Focus on Innovation
In HMS Core 5.0, multiple app services have been enhanced. For example, Scan Kit improves the accuracy of barcode scanning and response speed in complex scenarios, thanks to the deep-learning barcode scanning engine. Map Kit provides new capabilities to plan routes for taking public transportation, helping developers enrich the practical functions of their apps.
In his speech, Mr. Zhang Ping'an said that multiple top video apps in the Chinese mainland, such as Mango TV, Youku, and Tencent Video, had integrated WisePlay DRM, and that Huawei has been negotiating with multiple content producers to seek cooperation.
WisePlay DRM not only enhances DRM protection capabilities from the software, hardware, to enhanced hardware levels, but also builds a complete ChinaDRM ecosystem under cooperation with ChinaDRM and operations organizations. Currently, multiple top video apps in the Chinese mainland have joined the ChinaDRM ecosystem, where WisePlay DRM plays an important role in offering free copyright protection services for audio and video apps.
HMS: The Spark of Inspiration to Light the Way Forward
Finally, Mr. Zhang Ping'an said, "We are constantly facing challenges. The greater the challenge, the more determined we are to build the HMS ecosystem. The huge challenges we faced have inspired us. With support from more and more excellent partners, we join hands with 700 million users around the world to open up HMS and look forward to achieving great things in the future."
HMS Core will be continuously optimized and enhanced in the future to provide richer and better app services, and Huawei looks forward to working together with global developers and partners to bring users a smart life experience in all scenarios.

Note that this is different than the way approval is calculated for individual modes (the proportion of Approve responses compared to the number of both Approve and Disapprove responses), where Neutral responses are excluded. The difference in calculation has continued this way in order to maintain comparability with previous survey results.
For comparisons sake, the overall approval rating trend going by raw Approval percentage over the last 4 surveys is: 50.6% (Dec) -> 22.9% (Feb) -> 28.1% (Apr) -> 42.9% (Sept)
Whereas the overall approval rating trend going by proportion of Approve/Disapprove with the Neutrals excluded over the last 4 surveys is: 82.2% (Dec) -> 41.0% (Feb) -> 51.3% (Apr) -> 71.7% (Sept).

“What would be the best Harmonized Hero (a pair of two heroes from different games) and why?”:

Rather than selecting a subset of responses this time, the link below is to a google sheet of almost all unique responses. I cleaned it up a little bit to remove “idk” type answers, duplicates, and partial string duplicates, so don’t worry if you don’t see your exact response in it.

~ Feedback ~

As always, I received lots of great feedback, both in your survey responses and in the thread itself. A heartfelt thank you to all participants for your encouragements and criticisms - these surveys wouldn’t be where they are without your feedback. But it’s not all serious; feedback messages also included:

  • #FloofMomGang #GiveLeoAGoodFuckingAltForOnce #NowiRefineWhen #TelliusNewHeroesPlz #ElinciaResplendentWhen #JusticeForDedue #PleaseRemoveLChromInstysIAmBeggingYouICantLiveLikeThisAnymore
  • “There once was a CYL4 banner / That hit my orbs hard like a hammer / The very next day / FloomMom Duo came our way / Now I'm stuck bartering with a loan planner”
  • bonk, go to survey jail”
  • “Am I also allowed to put in "Norne and Azura" for a Harmonized Hero pair? No reason.”
  • “Brace yourself. Winter (armours) are coming!” “Brave Hector's refine has made me so very happy with it's inclusion. Go shove your bow up your butt Legendary Chrom.”
  • “Give me villager alts or give me death”
  • “I expect the next survey to come with +12 to attack, null follow up, and special cooldown reduction.”
  • “The true best Harmonized Hero would be Azura and Roy since it would make me uninstall the game and never want to play a gacha ever again”
  • “My headcanon for the dream storyline is that the evil fairies have the Summoner off picking up pebbles that look like orbs. Fredrickson would be proud.”
  • “Where's the most wanted unit to add to the game question so I can shout my want for Seteth into the void?”
  • “I no longer dab, for Legendary Seliph has finally appeared.”
  • And greetings from Argentina, the Bahamas, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Finland, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, Ireland, Russia, South Korea, Sweden, the UK, Vietnam, the Pacific Northwest, Alaska, Toronto, and St. Louis, as well as from many fictional locations!
And some personal/meta comments:
  • “Any chance we end up seeing another Super Serious Survey in the not-so-distant future?” -> I could not believe it’s been over a year since the last one! We’ll have to do one soon!
  • “Feels like the end of an era, not having to count all my five stars” -> I know, right? I may have it return in a side survey for the most hardcore of respondents at some point, since some people are asking about it and it would be good to get data on it every once in a while.
  • “I was looking through your Nornes skills and saw you haven't given her live for bounty yet! It's the best skill for her, what are you doing!?” -> I am a fraud :( I have given her Live for Honor though :P
  • “What do you hope for in FEH?” -> Norne alt, Resplendent Jaffar, and Shamir
  • Multiple people mentioned that they had returned after a long break and were surprised to see Norne instead of Azura! Welcome back!
  • I also missed a bunch of other possible Trait Fruit nicknames, which I knew would inevitably happen. Sorry!

Note: Please don’t ask me to feature your feedback comment; it’s the only guaranteed way to not have your comment added!

Finally, the suggestion to have separate options for serious vs non-serious feedback was a good idea, I’ll try that out on the next survey!

~ Closing Remarks ~

If you missed out on responding to this survey when it was available, consider subscribing to FEHSurveys. This subreddit serves as a place to organize FE:H-related surveys, make new releases more visible, and make it easier for users to see when surveys are active.

Thanks again to everyone who participated! I hope you find the results interesting, and if there’s anything else you think can be discovered from the data, let me know and I’ll do my best to oblige!

Picks Of The Week (u/lefuniname has a long one for us, so strap in)

1. MUZZ - The Promised Land LP [Monstercat]

Recommended if you like: Pendulum, Knife Party, Delta Heavy, Pendulum again
A few months ago I shared my thoughts about the first single of MUZZ’s debut album. I said if he keeps the quality of Nemesis up for the whole runtime of the album, it was going to be an absolutely huge one. You know what? He did it.
Over the course of the last few months he released single after single, every two weeks, like clockwork. With each new single I was waiting for the inevitable bad single or just any kind of dip in quality, because I usually just don’t expect perfect albums. My “this has to become worse at some point” expectations were not met though. He just kept smashing out banger after banger. It was actually really hard to not pick his single releases for the Picks Of The Week every time a new one was dropped.
Somehow that wasn’t perfect enough for him though, he took the whole thing up another notch. Last Tuesday, two days before the full album release, he premiered the full album with a full live band rendition of all the songs on it. My mind was blown the whole way through, every single song sounded even better with the live band. But let’s just not get too far ahead of ourselves, let’s talk about the album.
As expected, the album starts off with a bang and that bang’s name is Nemesis. With the intro track Valhalla setting the mood just before, the first single’s incredible intro becomes even better. It’s the perfect mix between Pendulum and Knife Party, with more aggressive guitars. The computer generated voice, the dubstep-y pewpew’s, the whole rock dnb aesthetic. It’s so so good. The followup Start Again, featuring uncredited singer Richard Hutchinson, who you might recognize from MUZZ’s Lost Forever, switches gears to a more half-time vibe. Not drum and bass (won’t be the last time either), but still very enjoyable, especially that beautiful ending.
Back to drum and bass. Next we have another one of those tracks I desperately wanted to talk about here, but held back because I didn’t want to seem like too much of a MUZZ fanboi. Of course I’m talking about Out There, featuring MVE, who delivered one of my top 5 favorite vocals of this year on this track. Out There somehow strikes the perfect balance between happy-funky melodies and high-energy filthy bass, at some points reminiscent of Mat Zo’s Vice. That part during the drop when MVE sings I WONT TURN MY BACK ON YOU though. Chills every time man. This song also features my favorite nod to Knife Party on the album. Just before the second drop hits, it sounds like it’s into a filthy dubstep-y drop before a quick record scratch brings us back to the funkville. For someone who used to listen to Knife Party all day, that part instantly threw me back to their track EDM Trend Machine in 2014, where they did the same thing.
Speaking of Knife Party. Prepare for madness. The next track Born For This is another genre switchup, this time MUZZ went for a Electro/Techno hybrid. If you didn’t hear the Rob and Gareth influences before, you will certainly hear them now. That ACCESS DENIED sample combined with the big hitting drop just hits me in the same spots that Internet Friends did years ago.
The album keeps up the back and forth between dnb and other electronic genres with Star Glide, an uplifting dancefloor track with a melody so catchy it regularly gets stuck in my head for days. As is customary on this album, the vocals by Cammie Robinson are perfect for the track. The Sanctuary brings us back to non-dnb, once again. Or is it dnb, but with a half-time drop? Who knows at this point. All I know is that it’s a banger. Salvation is another one of those. Way closer to dnb than Sanctuary, but it still kind of blurs the genre lines throughout. It’s also the song MUZZ embraces his love for rock the most on, thanks to the vocals and guitars by actual rock band Bloodhounds.
It’s time for the biggest grower on the album, for me at least. The Warehouse, featuring legendary vocalists Miss Trouble and PAV4N (most known from his work on Foreign Beggars), is probably the most unique dnb track on the whole album. Both vocalists work in perfect tandem with each other and the incredible production, creating an atmosphere throughout the track that could be cut with a knife. Close your eyes during this track and you can actually taste the Warehouse. Or so I heard.
At this point in the album the atmosphericity (yes that’s definitely a word) begins to reach its peak. Whether it’s The Warehouse, Somewhere Else’s 3 minute buildup, vibey vocals by Danyka Nadeau and incredible guitar solo ending or the ending track Catharsis, the monumental half-time collab with Koven, all of it is just incredible.
Man. All throughout the album you just have this amazing atmosphere. The unbelievable attention to small details, the wonderful production. The melodies, the drums, the vocals. Everything. Every track flows from one into another. Even though the singles are all very enjoyable by themselves, I actually recommend listening to the whole thing in one sitting. Also, don’t forget to watch the live band version, it’s somehow even better.
This is just gonna be my go-to “new Pendulum album” if we don’t get an “actual” Pendulum album this year (which we probably won’t, who are we kidding here). Just incredible.
P.S. This has become way longer than I expected. Nearly 1000 words. Oops.

2. Phaction - Ubiquitous EP [Metalheadz]

Recommended if you like: Data 3, Grey Code, Zero T
Going from Monstercat to Metalheadz. Oof, what a vibe change.
Phaction has always released quite a bit of quality music these past few years. And this year is no different. After his great Chemistry EP earlier this year, which was also his debut on BCee’s Spearhead label, this week the cypriot-turned-bristolian producer returned to the legendary Metalheadz for this second EP. He usually strikes a great balance between aggressive bass and laid-back soulful liquid. This time, the aggressiveness took over.
The first track, which is also the title track, is still more in the soulful territory though. Throughout the track there’s this melody whizzing left and right and all through your ears, which makes me appreciate my headphones so much more than usual. Now that I read what I wrote this sounds like the most annoying thing ever, but trust me, it’s actually really interesting. Phaction really used the stereo sounds to his advantage in this one.
It’s not until the second track, Isiah, that the bass offensive actually kicks off. Compared to the title track, Isiah is way different in its drums and arrangement though. Instead of the fast rolling drums you hear a bunch of hi-hats going all over the place while the other drums slow down considerably. During all this there’s this warm bass that just fills the entire room. Boogaloo Shoo goes a similar route drum-wise. However instead of slowly expanding, the bass is way more in your face, forcefully punching your ears in a rhythm that I would absolutely describe as catchy. Lastly, Deus Ex feels like a combination of the previous three tracks. The combination of the constant hi-hats, the drums going crazy and the punching aggressive bass strutting back and forth through my ears is just addicting.
I’m usually not even really a fan of tracks with that kind of broken-up rhythm, and I still love this EP. That’s how good it is.

3. Alora - Without You [Rampage Recordings]

Recommended if you like: T & Sugah, NCT, Bensley
Time for some unique vibes. But first, story time.
It’s not been a good year for the event industry, to put it mildly. One of the bigger events that has been hit the hardest this year is Rampage, the “biggest drum & bass and dubstep party in the universe”. The Belgian indoor-festival was supposed to go ahead in mid-March, which is exactly when the restrictions started getting tighter and tighter. In fact, just a few weeks earlier Let It Roll Winter went ahead just fine. However, in the span of just one week, the official announcement went from “it’s definitely happening” to “please don’t even come to Antwerp”. I know that because I was supposed to go too and refreshed the Rampage page 24/7 during this time. Since the event organisers were holding out hope until the very last second, a lot of time and money went into it, without anything in return. The losses were (still are, I guess) in the millions apparently. While there are still smaller scale events being organised under the Rampage name, the future is uncertain. Even though losing Rampage would obviously be absolutely tragic for the festival scene, it might also mean losing Rampage Recordings, making this whole thing even more sad than it already is.
Because they have released some great stuff over the years. One of their best singles was just released this week: Without You, by Alora.
The dutch duo consists of Twan, who is responsible for the NOX event series in the Netherlands, and Madster, who some might know from his releases on Differential and Korsakov. Just like ID on ProgRAM and On You on Rampage Recordings, this third release of theirs shows their skill in creating unique dancefloor vibes. A melancholic vocal paired with a production that emphasizes that feeling even more will always make me melt. The way the melody is coming back in halfway through the drop is just lovely. You think the breakdown is coming soon, but nope, more drop. Love it when that happens in a track, not gonna lie. If you want to hear something unique this week, this might be your thing.
Hope we will be able to hear more by both Alora and Rampage Recordings in the future.

4. Nuvertal - Urbanization EP [Celsius Recordings]

Recommended if you like: Hybrid Minds, ChaseR, Humanature
Time to get the spotlight out again. This one is a bit of a repeat candidate, but I just had to feature this release. Correct, this is the Hidden Gem Of The Week™!
Nuvertal’s newest Urbanization EP is a perfect blend between liquid and the more darker spheres of drum and bass. Released on Celsius Recordings, the sister label of the mighty Fokuz Recordings, this EP encapsulates the Russian liquid maestro’s sound in four incredible tracks.
Right off the bat, he smashes it out the park with the vocal-driven My Shell Erases, a collaboration with Avenax. Vocals and production so dreamy it’ll just make you drift away. Wily Willie is not just fun to say, it’s also a great follow-up track to the intro. Instead of dreamy, Nuvertal goes into a darker, more aggressive territory. This fast-paced energy is kept up in the title track Urbanization, a roller that deserves the title. Finally, the EP ends on a sombre note with the athmospheric The Earth Forgives, bringing our energy levels down to the ground again.
If you like rolling drums and beautiful liquid, this EP is definitely worth checking out. Nuvertal in general is just a gem.
Other Hidden Gems of this week:
  • Target Audience - Dimensions
  • Rubix (BE) - Moonlight
  • Skuff - Retold Stories
  • Bold Theory - Zero Approach EP (it’s back on Spotify, whoop whoop)
  • Askel & Elere - Glass EP

2020.09.04 11:49 Rorqual_Pilot_01 My POV about what would be EVE Online's perfect PvE ecosystem.

So before I start, I would like to mention that I am no visionary, I am just a random EVE player that wants the game to get better. This is my point of view about what would be EVE's perfect PvE ecosystem, I'd appreciate if people that don't agree could refrain on the salt and insults.
So first of all, EVE is broken to fuck currently. It needs urgent changes. Ratting is broken, yes, but not only. Is delayed local the solution ? Of course not. All botting groups like FRAT or MANGO have to do is to get any shitty server software and a MySQL database to make cloaked bots Dscan gates and upload the intel on database to make bots receive the data that anyone is in system, and voilà, you just kicked your legit playerbase in the balls while bots laugh in binary. Or even more stupid, just make the bots press V and watch them laugh as they warpout when there is a ship in scan range. Whether it's blackout or delayed local, both of these are bullshit and don't answer any issue.
The only way to balance things, in my opinion, is to straight delet ratting as it is from the game and switch to a wider incursion or invasion system. WH ratting and Incursion is, I believe, the best example of what PvE should be in EVE as of making money, you have to be together to prevail. Just imagine any other MMO, you can do basic stuff alone, but when you want to step up, you need to be a group. CCP should make it so that Sansha/Trig/Sleeper invasions pop in regions and people have to farm them to do ISK "ratting style".
So what's the deal and why is it so great ? Well, y'all want ratter to move, isn't it ? There you go. With that system, they have to move in order to get to invasion areas. That way, we also separate the "Pro 3lite PvPers" that just look for easy Ishtars or Gilas and bail as soon as you bite their asses and the real PvPers that want to fight.
It would also promote conflict. With ratting gone, border invasions could be the occasions for groups to clash to claim the field.
Of course, payouts would need a big buff to make this viable and worth fighting, cause current Incursion payouts are an A-Type Meme.

2020.09.02 09:41 LiftThis 90 days. 65 pounds, and dumped high blood pressure and cholesterol at the same time. None of my clothes fit, but I feel so much better! Here's how I did it, and what I learned during the process.

Sorry for the long post. There's a lot to cover. The TL;DR is at the end, but I'd recommend reading the whole post if you actually want to try what I did, because there were a lot of little (and not so little) lessons that I learned along the way, both good and bad.
On June 1, my life was fucking awful. Two months prior, my wife moved out with 2 days' notice. I had no idea anything was wrong, and she wouldn't even tell me why at first. I found out later that she'd just been putting on a smile and pretending everything was fine, when it wasn't.
I was in school, and my grades had tanked. I was in danger of losing financial aid. I was about to have to move. I was losing my wife, and she wanted to take my 5-year-old daughter 50% of the time, with that same 2-day notice. On the Holms-Rahe Stress Inventory, on a scale that maxes out at 300 points to determine how close to a stress-induced health breakdown I was, I scored 753 points. I had high blood pressure, high cholesterol, type 2 diabetes, anxiety, depression, and really severe ADHD. Life fucking sucked.
But I decided I was going to work on personal improvement instead of wallowing in self-pity. I started weighing myself while trying to figure out how to change the numbers on the scale. I wanted to try something like calorie counting and intermittent fasting, but I just couldn't stop eating crap. Tons of it.
When you're diabetic, and you don't eat, you kind of get the shakes. You feel a little uneasy, maybe stressed out, irritable, and possibly dizzy or nauseous. But when your whole fucking world is dumped on its head, you feel like that all the time. I forgot to eat for three days, because all of those warning signs were just what it was like to exist at all, all day, every day.
At 8:30 pm one night, I realized I was hungry. I thought to myself "Huh. I'm hungry. When did I last eat? Wait, when did I last eat?" And that's when I realized it had been three days.
I weight myself. The scale said I'd lost 11 pounds in those three days. I was shocked, for two reasons: I had lost an astonishing amount of weight during that time, and I had managed to fast after all. The next day, another two. 13 pounds in 4 days. I decided I'd better call my doctor, because there was no way that was safe. I wasn't able to schedule an appointment right away, so I had to wait a week or two. Meanwhile, I decided to use my new-found willpower and try out this whole /intermittentfasting thing. Specifically, OMAD, or One Meal A Day.
Surprisingly, my doctor wasn't concerned when I finally reached him. By that point, I'd lost roughly a dozen more pounds, and had started to exercise. But he said it was normal to experience extreme weight loss with extreme changes to diet and exercise. He put me on a blood glucose monitor to ensure my blood sugar didn't drop to dangerous levels since I'm diabetic, and warned me that I wouldn't keep losing at that rate forever because it wasn't sustainable. Much of it was water weight, and eventually it would slow down. But until then, "Enjoy it while it lasts," he said.
I targeted 1,250 calories per day, all during one meal (over roughly an hour, since I often snacked on the meal's ingredients as I cooked), and tracked everything using MyFitnessPal. Just the free version - I haven't needed to upgrade to the paid version yet. I also tracked my exercise using a smartwatch. I started setting goals, like targetting 175 pounds by December 15, or 6 months after I started. According to the math behind my loss so far, this appeared to be possible.
A side note on MyFitnessPal: don't link it to your smartwatch. If you do, it starts to give you calories back as if you've "earned" them. But if you do that, you'll eat more than your target, and you'll stop losing (or worse, start gaining!) weight again. The paid version allows you to disable this "feature", but I found that you can just unlink your smartwatch account and that works just as well.
And I kept losing weight! With the guidance of a dietician in my doctor's office, I started targeting the following proportions on my plate:
At my request, my dietician agreed to let me switch protein and veggies. (She said it wasn't ideal but it also wasn't a huge problem. My dietitian was blown away by my weight loss. I'd also recently had an A1C panel done (A1C is your blood sugar over ~3 months, as opposed to the instant, but short-term result that a glucose monitor provides), and my A1C had dropped from 10.1 to 8.6! My dietition mentioned that, with my latest A1C test result there was actually the possibility that I could eventually reverse type-2 diabetes!
So, at this point, I was on 1,250 calories per day, with specific targets for food type proportions, and eating it all in a single meal, usually at night. And I was losing an average of ~6 pounds per week this way. My doctor eventually asked me to start eating my one meal in the morning instead of the evening, since I was getting irritable and shaky in the late afternoon. By doing this, that feeling didn't occur while I was awake, and disappeared by the time I woke up the next day. In addition to losing all of the weight, I started paying more attention to my diabetes and blood pressure mediation. After a couple of weeks of doing so, gradually increasing the dose of my BP meds, I finally got my blood pressure under control, and my doctor was finally comfortable with me taking my ADHD meds without risk of a stroke. But he warned me about rebound weight, and how quickly I could gain it all back if I wasn't careful. I needed to stay true to my goals. He also expressed concerns about my goals. He wanted to be supportive of my desire to get to 175 pounds, but he felt that doing this in 6 months, and my thoughts of reversing diabetes by then as well, might be "ambitious", as he put it.
I gradually started to change what I ate, as well. Calorie counting meant I had to immediately dump some things, like candy bars, but others (like boxed mac n' cheese, milk, etc.) were still fair game. They increased my carbs and didn't give me much that was healthy, but this was a stepping stone. I started having smoothies for breakfast every few days. Eggs and bacon instead of sugary cereals. Broccoli or green beans with my meals. Etc. And, over time, I discovered that I was craving unhealthy stuff much less, and started enjoying things like dried fruit for snacks (apricots and mangos, mmm!) that I didn't used to go for much. Tastes change when your body starts getting used to the idea of not having everything be oversaturated with added salt and sugar.
At this point, I also started seeing a therapist. I wanted to address my anxiety and depression before I did something stupid, and I wanted to stop letting ADHD run my life. Even more than I knew it was, at the time. I was also concerned about the possibility that I was a narcissist, which is something my ex accused me of being when she finally told me why she left.
But then a new problem cropped up. (Warning: poop details.)
So, there's a thing called "dumping syndrome". It turns out that, when you eat a gigantic meal, it isn't all going to fit into your stomach where it can be digested and used by your body. Instead, your body "dumps" it into your small intestine once it runs out of room in your stomach. Well, when non-digested food ends up in there, it acts as a solute and pulls a bunch of water out of your intestinal lining, resulting in cramping and somewhat uncontrollable diarrhea. This is the same reason those with lactose intolerance get cramping and diarrhea: lactose is a sugar that your body can't process, and it does the same thing once it ends up in your intestines. So, yeah. I'd eat a huge meal, then I'd have to make sure I was always close to a bathroom because there was going to be a reckoning real soon now. And, sometimes, I didn't make it in time, or I made the mistake of leaning too far, too fast, while trying to get there. It wasn't pretty.
I asked my doctor about this, and also if there was a significant difference between OMAD and just limiting calories, but over multiple meals, he said no; there was no data to demonstrate that there was a statistically significant difference between the two methods. The only differences were that it can be hard to stretch 1,250 calories over three meals, and you'll spend more time making three meals instead of one. When my doctor explained all of this to me, we both agreed that I should stop doing OMAD and try to switch back to three meals a day, still restricted to 1,250 calories. At this point, I'd been on OMAD for roughly 8 weeks and had lost somewhere around 40 pounds. And, after a little while, the dumping syndrome symptoms mostly disappeared.
At this point, I decided I wanted to put more effort into my exercise. I joined the same dojo as my 5-year-old and started taking kempo karate. And I discovered a new problem: head rushes. When I started exercising intensely, I started to get pretty severe head rushes. I had already experienced them, and my doctor said that, yeah, that can happen when you aren't eating much. But they were WAY worse during karate sessions. I started to lose vision at the edges as it disappeared into a sort of grayish-brown static, and then it wasn't just at the edges. Eventually, the static turned red. Yikes. I was pretty sure that hallucinations weren't a good sign, and I was worried I'd have to change my diet enough that I'd stop losing weight.
Fortunately, it wasn't that bad at all. My doctor said that, basically, my brain was getting starved of glucose because my muscles were using it. This resulted in my visual cortex getting starved as well, and the aforementioned light show. He told me to stop exercising when that happened. I suggested upping my calories to 1,500 per day, and he agreed that was a good idea. It also had the benefit of being easier to spread over three meals. The head rushes and hallucinations disappeared. But I kept losing weight. Awesome! But my doctor had warned me, fairly early in the process, about the potential of gaining it all back too quickly if I didn't stay on top of my diet.
Then I met a girl. We went on some adventures. I stayed at her house a few days at a time. I started forgetting to take my meds, because they weren't in front of me, because I wasn't staying at home anymore.
But... about those meds. I hadn't realized that I'd forgotten them until I was in my doctor's office for a follow-up on something else. When they pulled out the cuff to take my vitals, I immediately thought "Ah, crap. I've been forgetting my meds for DAYS! My BP is going to be high again."
But it wasn't. It turns out that, when you lose 40+ pounds, start paying attention to macro proportions, and start hiking regularly, it lowers your blood pressure. Who knew? My doctor was pleased. I was ecstatic. Two days later, he permanently removed high blood pressure and high cholesterol from my chart. That's two out of three pills I didn't have to take. And then he started talking about something else. "So, here's the process we follow to remove diabetes from your chart," he said. He described continuing to test A1C levels until they are at normal, non-diabetic levels of ~5.7. Then they take me off my meds, and keep testing for a year after that. If I remain at non-diabetic levels, he said, they'd remove diabetes from my chart. He just said it matter-of-factly that day. As if it was a matter of when, rather than if. As if it was a foregone conclusion. I guess he changed his mind about me. :-)
So, that girl. We were having a good time togehter, and I stopped worrying as much about specific calorie counts, allowing myself to go a few hundred calories over each day. After all, I was still NOWHERE NEAR my original calorie count before this insane diet, right? And I gained 11 pounds back in only 6 days. Holy cow! My doctor was definitely right about the rebound weight! Fortunately, I got it back down after about 10 days. But lesson learned!
One of the recurring themes in this journey was the need to listen to my body. I needed to listen when I was getting head rushes. I needed to listen when I was suffering diarrhea. And I needed to listen when I was full. After a while, I started forcing myself to slow down, and I realized that I could get full WAY faster than I thought, but I just hadn't given my body enough time for my stomach nerves to figure it out and signal my brain "Hey. I'm full, dumbass. Stop eating."
I discovered a bunch of non-scale victories along the way, as well. Clothes not fitting was a big one, but there were some seemingly small events that had a REALLY big emotional impact when they happened. I went on a cave tour, and someone had to squeeze by at one point. Well, prior to that, turning sideways did nothing for this. I was basically a circle from above. But this time, I sucked in my gut and turned sideways, and it made a difference! Man, things like that felt good. I've also started out outpace my friends on trails and other activities. And when I dropped below 250 pounds... man. Okay, so there is a ton of stuff in life that has a weight limit of 250 pounds. That's basically what the country thinks is the limit of "normal" weight. And don't get me wrong; I'm not faulting this. It's basic structual engineering: things can only take so much weight. But it sucked when ladders creaked and bent, or I couldn't go on a trampoline, or I wasn't allowed to go skydiving. Now, I can! I got a monthly membership for my kid to go to a local trampoline park, and I'm allowed to jump with her! Ladders don't flex and move around when I stand on them. Hell, I can even go skydiving now, something I've always wanted to do! (Not that I can afford to, but at least I'm allowed now!) The number of life changes that have occurred is staggering!
It's been three months, as of today, since all of this started. Here's a before and after from the last 3 months. Yeah, I'm still a fat fuck. But I'm WAY LESS of a fat fuck than I used to be, and I'm continuing to lose weight every week. I've lost almost twice as much as my kid weighs! And while it's slowing down a little, it's definitely still going strong. None of my clothes fit anymore. Nothing I've purchased in the last 3 years, anyway. And roughly 3 years ago, I packed a ton of things that were too small into plastic bins for "when I lose weight". Yeah, those clothes? Most of THEM don't fit anymore, either! They're too big! That's the difference 65 pounds makes! But now I have to buy new clothes and I can't because I'm a broke college student that's also a recently-single dad. Oh well. I guess that's a pretty good problem to have!
So, for you.
This is the beginning.
This is how it starts. With the moment looking in the mirror. With the moment of realization: "I DON'T LIKE THIS." And, then, "so I'm going to CHANGE this."
And then you do.
And it sucks, and it takes time, and some days you move forward, and some days you move back, and it feels like a yoyo sometimes.
But you keep going.
And, after a month, you look at yourself in the mirror again.
And you're disappointed. Maybe even disgusted.
But you keep going.
And after two months, when you look in the mirror again, you shrug and go "Huh. Okay. This is actually starting to look a little different."
And then you keep going.
And then, three months later, you look in the mirror again.
And then you smirk.
And then you smile.
And then you can't stop smiling.
And then? You keep going, because you're committed to the change you started...
Today.
Congratulations on taking this first step. It's the hardest one. Some others will seem harder in the coming weeks/months. But this one, this first one, is the big one.
And you took it.
So. TLDR:
  1. Sometimes you just need a fucking catalyst. The biggest obstacle to getting started was my belief that I couldn't.
  2. Use an app like MyFitnessPal RELIGIOUSLY. Don't fail to log a SINGLE THING, even when you feel crappy about your calorie choices.
  3. Losing weight can sometimes go ridiculously fast, but be careful and check with a doctor as you go.
  4. Losing weight leads to good things, like lower blood pressure and cholesteral (and maybe reversing type-2 diabetes!), but can also lead to head rushes, dizziness, mild hallucinations, so listen to your body.
  5. OMAD can lead to nasty things like dumping syndrome. Again, listen to your body.
  6. Try some new foods. Start with things you like in them, even if they aren't as healthy. You'll be surprised how much your tastes change as you get healthier.
  7. You are going to be successful. It'll take time, but it'll work, and Enjoy yourself! It's going to suck at first, but things are going to be AMAZING in a month or two. You'll feel completely different, and you'll find that it's much easier to stick to things as time goes on.
I hope this helps someone. It sure as hell helped me. :-)

2020.09.01 15:17 eZGjBw1Z New Products and Price Changes - Tuesday 9/1/20

It's the first of the month so we have another batch of new products and price changes. According to the "How to Become a Contract Liquor Agent" document, "The Agent must also complete price changes that occur at the first of the month..." We might see more changes over the next few days.
Prices seem to have mostly decreased this time although the changes to "De-Listed" suggest that it may be because many products are being cleared out through the Last Call stores. Update As I dig through the data I'm noticing that many of the de-listed products that appear to no longer be available were in some stores through yesterday. Some of these products are now included in the Last Call products list and appear to be hidden at any store other than the four last call locations. Some discussion in the replies suggests that those stores might still have them but the state is probably in the process of recalling them to send back out to the Last Call stores. If there is a newly de-listed product below that appears to be gone that you'd like me to try to help you locate post a reply below.
Here's a link back to what changed last month on 8/1.
For each category I've sorted by the amount of the price increase or decrease. New products are shown first, then price decreases are shown in decreasing order followed by price increases in increasing order. At the end are products with other changes unrelated to price.
American Whiskey
Brandy
Canadian Whiskey

2020.08.30 18:56 Manammizan What is the necessity of tree plantation?

The importance of tree plantation in our life can’t be described in short.

Our every breath is involved with trees. Without tree our life is nothing. Trees provide us with oxygen as well as we get wood from this tree to sustain life which we can use as furniture and fuel. Forests cover 31 percent of the global land area which is not sufficient for human needs. Trees Keep the soil clean by absorbing gamma toxins and other harmful substances from the soil; Keeps air clean, keeps airborne dust clean, reduces heat and absorbs air pollutants carbon-monoxide, sulfur dioxide, nitrous oxide; Gives shade and keeps the weather cool; Prevents soil erosion. The roots of the tree tie up the soil and the leaves of the tree suppress the speed of wind and rain, which helps to prevent soil erosion. When used to enhance the beauty of the home, its value increases a lot. So trees increase the value of housing resources; Helps retain water in the soil; Helps to increase the water level in the soil; The water that is released into the atmosphere through the process of perspiration keeps the environment cool, creating clouds and rain; Protects us from various floods, droughts, salinity, and other natural disasters. No one has ever done such a multifaceted benefit as a tree.
What we get from a tree:
What a tree gives us in a year is that 10 air conditioners produce the equivalent of air conditioning, absorb 750 gallons of rainwater and absorb more than 60 pounds of harmful gases from the air.1 gram of water helps evaporates 560 calories of solar energy. 1 large tree releases 100 gallons of water a day in the air. From 1 hectare of green land, the plant receives an average of 900 kg of carbon-di-oxide per day and gives 750 kg of oxygen during photosynthesis. One medium-sized mango tree produces oxygen worth Rs 14 lakh in 40 years. Having 5 hectares of forest reduces the temperature of the area by 3-4 degrees, prevents soil erosion, and increases air humidity. Trees absorb 85-90% of noise, protect us from noise pollution.
To burn 1 lakh bricks, 2500 tons of fuelwood is required. Bangladesh needs about 108 crore mana of fuelwood for cooking every year. According to the survey, Finland has 84%, Myanmar 64%, Japan 73%, Sweden 55%, Canada 45%, United States 34% and India 20%, and Bangladesh only 09% and 17% of the total percentage forestry. where it is necessary to have at least 25% of forest cover. A healthy person needs to eat about 250 grams of vegetables and 115 grams of fruits daily. In Bangladesh, people are able to eat 40-45 grams of fruit per head. In general, 40 percent of human brain development occurs in the womb and the remaining 80 percent develops within 5 years of birth. Due to a lack of vitamin A, about 30,000 to 40,000 children are blinded by night blindness every year. However, fruit trees have a huge contribution to provide nutrition and increase immunity.
Demerits of cutting trees the unplanned way:
As a result of continuous deforestation, the biodiversity of Bangladesh is under threat today. The Royal Bengal Tiger of the Sundarbans, the Chitra deer is almost extinct. Thousands of species of animals and aquatic animals are being lost in the world. In Bangladesh, more than 100 of the 5,000 species of trees are already extinct. Out of 632 species of birds, 12 species are already extinct and 30 species are on the verge of extinction. Of the 110 animal species, 40 do not exist. Of the 60 species of fish, 54 do not exist. It is feared that by 2022, agricultural production may fall by 30 percent. Twenty-two percent of South Asia's agricultural land could be destroyed.
Conclusion:
According to the latest data, an average of 21 hectares of forest is being destroyed every minute in the world. About 14.6 million hectares of forest are being destroyed every year, which is about the size of Bangladesh. Therefore, in order to save the world of our lives, it is possible to plant 51 crore trees in the country by planting at least one fruit, one forest, and one medicinal tree.
In order to maintain the natural balance, we need to increase our sense of responsibility and affection towards trees and forests at a geometric rate. Because trees are the wonderful controller of the Creator to sustain our life and our existence. If you want to survive, plant more trees. Take care of the trees regularly; Keep the tree good, the tree will keep you good too. May you all be well planted and kept alive by planting seedlings. The world for all by all.

2020.08.27 21:01 autotldr Exclusive: Iranian vessel loads with Venezuelan alumina, amid closer ties - sources

This is the best tl;dr I could make, original reduced by 69%. (I'm a bot)
PUERTO ORDAZ, Venezuela/NEW YORK - An Iranian-flagged vessel loaded a cargo of alumina in Venezuela this month after delivering supplies for an Iranian supermarket in the South American nation, three sources familiar with the shipment said, in the latest sign of closer ties between the U.S.-sanctioned nations.
The growing economic ties between Iran and Venezuela have irked Washington, which is seeking to oust Maduro and thwart Iran's nuclear ambitions.
The Trump administration this month seized fuel cargoes aboard four tankers destined for Venezuela and sanctioned a Chinese company assisting Mahan Air, the Iranian airline that conducted the refinery equipment airlifts to Venezuela.
The Iranian embassy in Caracas said on Twitter on Aug. 22 that Venezuela had shipped a cargo of mangos and pineapples to Iran as part of "Win-win commercial relations," along with a video of trucks at Venezuela's La Guaira port.
Refinitiv Eikon data show the Golsan travelled to La Guaira after loading at Venezuelan state-owned bauxite and alumina company CVG Bauxilum's port, before setting sail on Aug. 19.SUPERMARKET SUPPLIES. The Golsan had departed in May from Bandar Abbas in Iran arriving in Caracas in late June, Refinitiv Eikon vessel tracking data show.
Iran's ambassador to Venezuela said at the time it was carrying provisions for the new Iranian supermarket in Caracas, which opened in July.

2020.08.26 11:40 BlockDotCo Blockchain tech’s multipurpose role in driving global advancement

Link to original post: https://cointelegraph.com/news/blockchain-tech-s-multipurpose-role-in-driving-global-advancement
With globalization progressing rapidly across all industries, let’s look at how blockchain tech is implemented in global advancement worldwide.
Since the advent of blockchain technology in 2008, we have seen an ongoing sense of fortune, and several industries have been, and still are, grateful participants. The enormous boom will undoubtedly cause many other businesses to come aboard this train and completely step up their operations.

Food industry

Blockchain tech in the food industry will make the process of food production, distribution and storage completely transparent. The decentralized ledger system will provide easy access to vital information about the food product you are buying, from when it was grown to when it reached the market and how long it has been stored.
A study conducted by Walmart shows how the digitization of the food supply chain would reduce the risk of infected foods getting to consumers. Walmart partnered with IBM to develop a Hyperledger system to store all information about its two test products: mangos and pork. The result demonstrated a food system with increased fresh food and minimal waste. Frank Yiannis, vice president of food safety at Walmart, said the following about the study:
“With blockchain, you can do strategic removals, and let consumers and companies have confidence. We believe that enhanced traceability is good for other aspects of the food systems.”

Voting

The traditional ballot system has existed and served its purpose for years, but it’s safe to say it has outlived its time. The digital voting system was brought on some years back to replace the paper ballot style, but it isn’t clear how it is safer, especially with lots of hackers on the prowl. So, how can blockchain technology help? Remember, the aim is to make the process as transparent and secure as possible.
With elliptical curve cryptography, voters can create two keys — private and public — to cast their votes. The public key is revealed to a verifier that certifies it, while the private key is registered anonymously and used to pass ballots and sign off during elections. Once this is done, anyone can determine if the signature is right or wrong using the public key. This is how blockchain can provide an easier and better way to vote.

Data sharing

If there is any lesson to be learned from the 21st century and the six months of lockdown we’ve witnessed globally, it is the pace at which the world has gone digital. With many companies, researchers and individuals constantly looking to exchange information securely, blockchain adoption for data sharing is inevitable.
While the widely used methods of exchanging data are laden with many flaws, blockchain boasts of a tightly secure peer-to-peer exchange of information that is independent of a third party. For example, Ideaology, an open-source blockchain project on Ethereum, is a platform for entrepreneurs, engineers, artists and scientists to exchange, review and monetize ideas freely.

Medicine and pharmaceuticals

Up to $200 billion is lost annually due to fake drugs and other misdoings in the pharmaceutical industry. Blockchain technology can potentially revolutionize pharmacies the world over by taking over supply chains. The distributed ledger system is also well in line with the United States Food and Drug Administration’s Drug Supply Chain Security Act requirements. Undoubtedly, it would significantly reduce the prevalence of substandard and counterfeit drugs, as every drug can be effectively monitored from production to the end stage.

Cybersecurity

Cybersecurity breaches and attacks are as old as the internet, and we have borne witness to quite significant ones with billions of pieces of personal information and resources stolen. Most of these breaches are a result of human vulnerability to phishing. A blockchain system can help prevent these attacks using cryptography — a sophisticated security network that uses a set of algorithms to encrypt and decrypt data.
Certainly, blockchain has come to stay, and many industries have realized this. It will be exciting to see how more industries adopt the technology in the post-pandemic era.

Day 1 - Saturday - $19.08
11AM- Wake up, brush my teeth, and do my morning skincare routine, which consists of La Roche Posay Toleriane Hydrating face wash, Pyunkang Yul essence toner and Nivea Sun Gel. I have breakfast, Golden Grahams and scrambled eggs with my sister, K. I make coffee and add my latest obsession, oat milk (never going back to almond).
1PM- I'm tidying up my room, when K walks in. She visiting for a couple of days, and is heading back today. She'll be starting as an attending physician in September but money has been tight for her since she hasn't been working since finishing her fellowship in July. She drops a bombshell on me, she has about $19K in credit card debt that accumulated over a few years. She states it's mainly from moving costs, exam fees, and trips related to training, but then I think back to items she bought in the past, like her Canada Goose coat and Burberry watch. She asks if she can borrow $3K and I say yes. She's my best friend; she's always been here for me, so of course I will help her out no hesitation. I tell her to be careful about lifestyle creep though when she starts working, and look into hiring a financial advisor for retirement planning & debt repayment. She promises to give me back the money plus more, next month when she gets her first paycheck and bonus.
4PM- We see K off as she heads back home, I take my dog out for an extra long walk in the neighborhood, he's sad to see K go.
5PM- I do laundry, today is chores day.
6PM- ...and also wash day. I shampoo and deep condition my hair. My WD faves are from the Shea Moisture JBCO line and Alikay Naturals.
8PM- I order quesadillas and Nutella nachos via Door Dash. My dumbass mistakenly inputs the delivery address as the restaurant's address. The driver calls me confused and states he returned the food back to the restaurant. I go pick up the food with damp hair. I don't normally do food delivery (a friend suggested and let me know that first time delivery fee is free) and take it as a sign I should stick to picking up my orders ($15.90 + $3.18 tip).
9PM- Get back home, heat up the food and watch a few episodes of The Umbrella Academy season 2. It's such a kooky show.
1AM- I head off to bed. I brush and floss, do my Saturday nighttime skincare routine (LRP face wash, The Ordinary AHA/BHA Peeling solution, PYK toner, and LRP Sensitive Fluide moisturizer) and shower.

Day 2 - Sunday - $0
11AM- Wake up and make breakfast, tostones with chili garlic sauce. Finish it off with Trader's Joe raspberry yogurt and coffee with oat milk.
12PM- Watch the church service via Youtube in the family room.
1PM- I fold laundry and start packing for my stay in Brooklyn. For the week, I'll be staying with my boyfriend T. in Brooklyn.
3:30PM- I say goodbye to my parents and head off to the city. I'm listening to the podcast, Redhanded, a true crime podcast. I really like the hosts, they don't trivialize the cases but still keep you engaged with their banter.
5PM-Arrive in Brooklyn, T has already made an early dinner, chipotle chicken soft tacos. He's awesome.
8PM- T has Hulu (free trial), so we watch the movie, Palm Springs. It's a cute film, Andy Samberg is so charismatic.

Day 3 - Monday - $0
7:45AM- I wake up and shower. I usually shower at night, but at T's place, I'm usually too tired to. I don't like this habit, I feel gross in the morning.
8AM- I apply light makeup (NYX brow pencil to fill in, Too Faced concealer for dark circles, Fenty loose powder to set, MAC raisin blush for a of bit color, Maybelline mascara for lashes, and Jack Black lip balm to moisturize). Upper management recently a enacted new policy of mandatory video conferencing, so I've started putting on makeup. Lol I guess it's good, because I do have a substantial amount of makeup that I had kind stopped using during WFH, partially due to that as well as depression.
8:40AM- Check my emails and review my schedule for the day. I call my mentee (R) to greet her good morning. This week is her last week at the company, she's been an awesome addition to our team.
10AM- I have an intern evaluation with my senior manager to go over R's progress. We both agree that she scores 5s all across the board. We bring in R into the call, to go over the evaluation.
12PM- T wakes up, he is currently unemployed due to covid. He and I make grilled cheese and scrambled eggs for brunch.
1PM- I work on a SQL script for a new project, my manager (my direct supervisor) assigned last week.
4PM- I have a weekly touch base meeting with my direct supervisor and teammates. We go around and discuss action items/projects we're working on.
6:30PM- Finally finish the script, and right in the knick of time, T is finished heating up the soft tacos.
7:30PM- After eating we head to Lowes, T is a proud plant dad. I stay in the car, while he buys pots and potting soil.
10:30PM- We're taking advantage of his free trial, and watch the Lodge on Hulu. I doze off before the film ends.

Day 4 - Tuesday - $12
5:30AM- I wake up and can't go back to sleep, so I surf the net on my phone. After lazing around for an hour or so I hop in the shower and follow through with the rest of my morning routine.
11:30AM- T wakes up, and goes to the bodega to buy bagels. I get a lox and ham, egg&cheese. He gets a lox only. I Venmo him, money for the bagels ($12).
3PM- I have an meeting with my manager, he gives me an update regarding a joint project with the QA team. We're scaling back on it. I also discuss with him, training, and we agree that it's time to include additional training to my workload. I'm happy to hear that he agrees because I would like to improve my skillsets and learn new tools.
7PM- I clock out of work. While I was working, T and his roommate were making pizza. I remove the mushrooms but it's A1, they're such great cooks.
8PM- We go for a walk around the neighborhood, of course with our masks ons.
9:30PM- I talk with my friend for about hour, just to catch up. We promise to meet up at the end of the month to go hiking. I haven't seen her since February.
10:45PM- I look over and edit T's cover letter, during the day he had been working on it. We drink wine afterwards and talk for a bit.
1AM- Tonight I make sure to shower before bed. I remove my makeup using the Innisfree cleansing oil and follow through with my regular skin & body care routine.

Day 5 - Wednesday - $22.45
8:45AM- T and I wake up. I definitely sleep better when I freshen up at night. I hastily go through my morning routine since I woke up late.
10:30AM- T makes sweet corn arepas and fried eggs for breakfast, they're delicious.
1PM- We eat leftover pizzas for lunch
3PM- R, the Dept. intern, and I work on making adjustments to a Tableau report. I let her take the reins on this item though.
5:30PM- Snack break: T makes homemade hummus and we eat with toasted pita bread.
9:15PM- K and I talk for a bit, she's looking for a new apartment closer to her job. We discuss the options, she sends me pics of the two apartments she's viewed so far.
10:30PM- I realized I never bought a gift for my sister, K, for finishing her training and I feel bad for judging her money situation. so I'm scrolling through Etsy for gifts for doctors, and I see a personalized mug for female doctors. It is so cute, I modify the skin tone and include her name. I purchase the mug and send as a gift, adding her address in the shipping information. She's going to love it!
11:15PM- T and I watch the Big Sick on Amazon Prime. I'm trying to utilize Amazon Prime before the free trial ends. It's an okay movie, although Kumail Nanjiani is great as usual.
1:30- T and I talk, he's stressed out about the end of the $600 pandemic unemployment benefits as well as the direction of his career. I try to assure him, I'm not very good at this though. I'm stressed too, and I'm incredibly blessed that my loved ones and I are healthy and I'm gainfully employed. I can't imagine how anxious I would be in his position. As it is, my anxiety levels are through the roof. We pray together, and then head to bed.

Day 6 - Thursday - $22.47
8AM- Wake up and do my morning routine.
8:45AM- Start working on reports. I phone R so we can double team and work on the reports together.
12PM- T and I make brunch, scrambled eggs with toasted pita and smoothies(frozen mango, strawberries, greek yogurt, and oat milk).
2PM- My two managers and I have a meeting with R, to evaluate how we performed as mentosuperviors. It seems like she really enjoyed working in this department and she rates us pretty well. The only constructive feedback she gave, is to start training earlier than we did. I agree, the internship this year seemed a bit disjointed due to everyone working home. I think it was a learning process for us all.
3PM- I send out the reports to my director and then focus on training for the rest of the day
5:45PM- T and I go out for a walk, and then come back home. We make eggplant parmesan and spagehetti, he seems in better spirits today.
10PM- We're trying to have an early night today, I prep for bed. As I take off my makeup, I realize the makeup remover is running low. After showering, I purchase another cleansing oil from the brand, Purito. I've heard great things about this brand on Youtube and the Skincareaddiction reddit, plus it's fragrance-free ($22.47).

Day 7 - Friday - $0
8:15AM- Wakeup and do my morning routine.
9AM- R and I start working on the report for one of the VPs. It's a weekly report that we append to, every Friday.
11:30AM- My manager joins in on our call, and we review the presentation together.
12:30PM- I WhatsApp my grandma as I eat the reheated pasta. I miss her so much, she usually flies to the UK and the states during the summertime to spend time with her children and grandchildren. Of course, she couldn't this year. Even before that, my Uncles and mom decided that maybe she shouldn't be traveling so much due to some medical issues that arose in the past. But she's so sprightly and healthy overall. She mentions it's business as usual back home, and laments most people cannot afford to quarantine/not work, there's no social safety net. We say our goodbyes, and I promise to call her more often.
1:15PM- The other analyst in the team, R, and I get to work on the end of week reports. While working, we talk about the changes R's university will implement in the Fall semester. They'll be starting school earlier than usual but will be ending before Thanksgiving. They still will have in-person classes. I'm really surprised by the fact; she sounds a bit hesitant about the prospect.
4:45PM- I send out the weekly reports. We then have a group call, to send off R, we all iterate how much we loved having her on our team, and we hope she returns again next summer. I note down, to connect with her on LinkedIn.
5:45PM- We have some hummus and pita, and then drive to the Shirley Chisholm park, to go for a walk. It's really nice and peaceful.
7:15PM- T picks up ramen. We both get spicy miso, low on salt. I offer to pay my share, but he refuses.
9:00PM- I'm really trying to squeeze as much as I can from this Amazon Prime free trial before it ends, so we watch Midsommar, although T has already watched it. It's very unsettling, but worth the hype.
11:45PM- I'm exhausted, I do my nighttime routine and we head to bed.

Expenses for the Week
Food + Drink: $31.08
Fun + Entertainment: $0
Home + Health: $22.45
Clothes + Beauty: $22.47
Transport: $0
Other: $0
TOTAL: $76

Reflection:
I feel pretty good about my spending for the week. I don't usually budget, but I think this is line with how I've been spending since my company's WFH policy was put in place. I'm very lucky to be able to save more. I would say before pre-covid, my largest expense was gas (transport) because my commute was quite long. I also think I spent a lot more on takeout and beauty. Based on this money diary, I would really like to track my spending more. Another thing I would like to work on, is shopping around for auto insurance quotes, and for the longer term, start looking at other positions. I'm not sure when my company's WFH policy will end, most likely not this year, but would like to look for higher paying positions that would be closer to home so I can pay my loans more quickly. Thank you for reading my money diary!

2020.08.24 16:40 Foment_life PMTA Megathread - Who's submitted/submitting for review ahead of the Sept 9th deadline?

Hey Folks,
So by now we all should be aware of the impending (Sept 9th) PMTA regulations, for those not familiar here’s the FDA’s PMTA site
tl;dr version, vaping companies need to submit an application for each individual item they make with some scientific data to prove that their products reach a vague “acceptable” level of safety to stay on the market. Some have listed the expected cost of an application north of $1 million per SKU. More conservative cost estimates from the FDA range from $117,000 to $466,000. No application, no legal sales. Application rejected, no legal sales
With that in mind, I have endeavored (with help from guitarjunkie80, OHMEGA, and HouseofCloudsVS) to source as much information about who is submitting applications for their products, and who is not. If you have any information about a vendor not already listed, please add a comment (source your info please) and I will add it to the list here.

2020.08.24 01:45 xeznok The State of Packet Inspection Tools

I've put together this post as mainly a brain dump of information I've gathered on Albion packet inspection (or "sniffing") and the tools that are allowed to do it. My goal is to get the community aligned in knowing what's possible, what's permitted, and why SBI's communication on this matter has been frustrating for many developers. I don't expect a lot of people to read the whole thing, but I feel it's important to have all this information in one place. I aim to be as objective as possible, though some bias may sneak through (and is generally noted) as I have personally been slammed by SBI's ambiguous policies. Please call me out on anything that seems overly biased and I will update accordingly.

Who Am I?

I'm Reznok, a co-author of the recently released ROAM (Roads of Avalon Mapp) tool. I have direct connections and relationships with Savage, 3mpire, and NEWBY leadership, and am the current guild leader of "Join Baka", though I try to avoid in-game politics as much as possible. I consider myself one of the most knowledgeable people for tool development based off of packet inspection. I have written multiple private/limited release tools such as loot loggers, chest value estimators (RIP), sovereignty map updaters, fame per hour calculators, detailed player inspectors (show death fame, equipped gear value, guild histories, etc. when inspecting manually), and map navigation tools. I have also recently publicly released the ROAM tool (along with theblackavenger) which included a client application to detect ROA portal connections.

What Is "Packet Inspection"?

Packet Inspection / Packet Sniffing is the process of automatically monitoring the game traffic between Albion's servers and a game client. This can be done with generic tools such as Wireshark/Winpcap or tcpdump or using hardware solutions such as network taps or firewalls with logging. For almost every action in the game, there is a communication between the game client and the game server. Typically, you will see a flow such as:
  1. Client requests to do something (move the player, check the market, send a chat message, etc.)
  2. Server validates that the client can do this thing and executes the action on the server
  3. Server sends the results of this action to all affected clients (player x is now at y position, the market results are a/b/c, you receive a new message, etc.)
All of these actions are data sent across the internet in packets. These actions, with SBI's implementation, are all conducted in plain-text with no encryption or intentional obfuscation. This means anyone able to read these packets can see exactly what data is being passed back and forth between their client and the server. This is done completely external to the game client its self and it does not require reading any in-game memory or process state.

What is SBI's Stance on Packet Inspection?

This is the most frustrating question to try to answer. The short version is that Packet Inspection is allowed, except for when it's not. To start, I'll begin with the TOS (https://albiononline.com/en/terms_and_conditions) section 13.3:
Users may only play the Game personally. They are not permitted to manipulate the Game or use technical tools that give Users an advantage over other players. In particular Users are forbidden to… ... - use software enabling “data mining” or which intercepts or captures data otherwise in connection with the Website and the Game.
This should make it open and shut right here, packet inspection is forbidden and anyone doing it is directly breaking the TOS. However, we then get to dev responses on the forums:
https://forum.albiononline.com/index.php/Thread/51604-Is-it-allowed-to-scan-your-internet-trafic-and-pick-up-logs/?postID=512670#post512670
There's a lot to unpack here between MadDave and Mytherceria's posts. Some key takeaways though:
  1. Packet Inspection, as long as it is limited to inspection and not modification, is fine and completely undetectable. It's impossible to detect, and the data is not intended to be secret to the client, so MadDave originally came out saying build whatever you want based on it.
  2. In February 2020 Mytherceria put some bounds on this. Anything that gives a direct benefit in PvE, gathering, or PvP, or somehow modifies the game/data or provides an in-game overlay is prohibited. No definitions are provided for "direct benefits". It's also stated in her post that there are cases of "Clearly Cheating" and "Clearly Okay", which is an extremely subjective thing to say in an official post. She suggests e-mailing albion support for future clarification, but as anyone who has dealt with support in the past can attest to, this is an arduous and slow process.
  3. It's not the Packet Inspection that's restricted, it's what is done with the data (which at that point is 100% completely out of the game and SBI's control), that is restricted.
So in short summary: SBI has admitted to being unable to detect Packet Inspection tools but will ban you if they detect the use of a tool that falls in their subjective definitions of cheating.
In an attempt to clear this up with SBI previously, I have already made the following request to Albion Support, which was ignored:
  1. Update the Terms and Conditions Section 13.3 to explicitly define what data is permitted to be captured. or
  2. Enforce the prohibition of all packet capturing tools.

What Tools Exist That Utilize Packet Inspection?

I'll be using this section to go over some approved and rejected tools.

Approved Tools

Albion Data Project

The largest, most well-known, and most-used project has to be the Albion Data Project (https://www.albion-online-data.com/). This tool gathers mostly auction-house specific data and uploads it a central server. The description from their site:
The goal of this project is to collect and distribute realtime information for Albion Online. This is achieved with a downloadable client that monitors network traffic specifically for Albion Online, identifies the relevant information, and then ships it off to a central server which distributes the information to anyone who wants it.
Broderick has truly gone above and beyond with the tools he has developed for the Albion Data Project. He has actively maintained the market data servers and many tools developed to assist in gathering of Albion data (including the best raw data-mining tool out there: https://github.com/broderickhyman/ao-bin-dumps and https://github.com/broderickhyman/ao-id-extractor).
This tool provides publicly available APIs for market data on any item in the game at any location in the game, all sourced from running the data collection client. An example of what this data looks like can be seen: https://www.albion-online-data.com/api/v2/stats/view/T4_BAG,T5_BAG?locations=Caerleon,Bridgewatch&qualities=2
Many, many, many tools have been written that utilize this data collection. I have personally witnessed and written tools that you punch in two cities (Fort Sterling and Bridgewatch for example), and using this data will dump out a shopping list of what to buy in city A and sell in city B as well as your expected profit margins (typically in the 10s of millions for each transport).
In my opinion, and many others, this gives an insane PvP advantage to any players utilizing these tools as the best ones are not publicly available and people are gaining millions and millions of silver each day using them.

Albion Online Stats

This is a handy DPS meter and fame per hour tracker: https://github.com/mazurwiktoalbion-online-stats It does exactly what you would expect of a DPS meter and is all around an awesome project.

Rejected Tools

AO-Radar

An Albion in-game overlay radar that shows you players and resources that are just outside your view range but you're receiving network traffic for. I won't provide a link for this one, as this one was rejected; and even with SBI's subjective definitions, it very obviously falls in the cheating category. However, it's worth noting that this project exists and there have been multiple highly-featured spin offs of it.

Roads of Avalon Mapping Tools

Recently to this post (23-08-2020), SBI has come out saying that automatic packet inspection of anything related to Roads of Avalon portal data is explicitly forbidden (https://forum.albiononline.com/index.php/Thread/135576-Roads-of-Avalon-Mapping-GPS-Tools/?postID=1063766#post1063766). This destroyed many tools that were doing this that were in use by ROAM, Mango (Newby's tool), CIR, and many others I'm sure. The reasoning why this is forbidden is due to SBI taking the stance of ROA maps providing an unfair PvP advantage over other players. There was also a broad sweeping statement saying that generating maps/routes between any portal data is prohibited (https://forum.albiononline.com/index.php/Thread/135576-Roads-of-Avalon-Mapping-GPS-Tools/?pageNo=1), but as mentioned before, once you have the data (either from packet inspection or manual means), control of that data is completely out of the control of SBI.
In my, admittedly biased, personal opinion: The advantages gained from tools like this are minuscule when compared to the advantages provided by the Albion Data Project. I am of the belief that SBI's current extreme reaction is due to not expecting publicly available fully-featured mapping tools this soon. However, anyone who has played Eve saw tools like this coming the second ROA was announced.

What's Next for Packet Inspection?

I'm hoping that by this point if you somehow managed to read this whole thing, you'll understand the frustration that developers find themselves in. We're forced to abide by ambiguous and arbitrary rules that, as written, make no sense. With this in mind, I again make my same request to SBI:
  1. Update the Terms and Conditions Section 13.3 to explicitly define what data is permitted to be captured and used or
  2. Enforce the prohibition of all packet capturing tools.

SBI, I would love to have a discussion with you guys about the capabilities of packet inspection tools and help work with you to clearly define the bounds of permitted packet inspection. You can reach me on discord at Reznok#0001, or by e-mail (you have it from my submitted support requests).

To the community, this post is only the beginning for me. I plan on releasing boiler-plate projects and tutorials to start building your own Packet Inspection tools. These will show developers how to monitor the game events and deal with the data so that anyone can start easily developing their own tools without having to tear through the approved projects source code like I had to.

Since the entertainment program of Mango Channel (Hunan TV) went viral across the country, Hunanese have successfully turned betel nut into a fashionable snack food for young people nowadays. If you enjoy chewing betel nuts but do not know the value of the industry behind it, you may miss a great opportunity to make a fortune! The betel nut industry is undergoing radical changes. The industrial upgrade has paved the way for healthy betel nut to become the world's best-selling refreshing high-frequency consumption product. The keen capital has already seen the large value of this industry in the future. The change of the betel nut industry is about to start. The huge market value of imagination is like a rich mine, waiting for people to discover.
Betel nut industry is about to explode
Hainan is the largest betel nut producing area in China. Many years ago, in order to get rid of the backward industry status of betel nut and completely changed the market image of betel nut, the Hainan government started to promote the green process upgrade of the betel nut industry since 2013. After several years of hard work and the continuous improvement of the production process of betel nut by related enterprises, Hainan has gradually completed the ban on the betel nut workshops of smoked soil stoves in the province since 2017, and all large betel nut manufacturers have adopted green, environmentally friendly and advanced baking technology and low-temperature internal circulation smoking technology to produce betel nut. The betel nut produced by the new technology is not only healthy and environmentally friendly, but also tastes better.
Few people realize what it means to upgrade the betel nut industry in Hainan, but international capital has begun to actively deploy the betel nut industry. Betel nut is the fourth most refreshing high-frequency consumer product after tobacco, alcohol and coffee. Among them, betel nut is the least addictive and has the least harm to the human body. It rich in betel nut polysaccharides and polyphenols which are very beneficial to health. If the new process can produce completely healthy betel nut under safe, pollution-free and cost-controllable conditions, it can be predicted that betel nut will become a perfect refreshing product in the eyes of the public, and the market sales are expected to be comparable to the world's largest addictive consumer product tobacco. , The market size is more than one trillion US dollars.

At present, the global consumers of betel nut is only 1.2 billion, almost all of which are concentrated in the Asia-Pacific region. To make betel nut worldwide, capital is required to integrate industrial resources and promote the internationalization of the industry. The Entertainment Synthesis Foundation of Singapore is deploying the global betel nut industry, and the betel nut industry in Hainan will become the highlight of its strategic investment. In order to integrate the resources of the global betel nut industry and promote healthy betel nut products and production technologies globally, The Entertainment Synthesis Foundation has invested a large money in building the Betel Nut Chain, a digital platform for betel nut industry assets based on blockchain technology, and united 21 strategic partners in related industries as starting nodes to maintain the betel nut chain network together.
Five ecological applications highlight the economic value of the Betel Nut Chain
The Betel Nut Chain is built completely based on the logic of the betel nut industry, which is very suitable for the development model of the betel nut industry. The token of the betel nut chain—BNC is the core of the betel nut chain to serve the betel nut industry. After the betel nut chain is launched, the five major ecological sectors based on the betel nut chain will also be launched one after another. BNC will run through the entire ecology. There are problems in the betel nut industrial system, such as inconsistent standards, lack of sustainable development business model, difficulty in asset circulation, liquidity and financing development, etc. These five ecological sectors include: full process traceability e-commerce platform, full supply chain financial platform, smart futures trading platform, betel nut industry digital ecological park and diversified scene applications.

  1. The full process traceability e-commerce platform
The full process traceability e-commerce platform helps the industry to build a complete traceability ecology, and records all the information of all stages of betel nut include planting, processing, packaging, transportation, storage, distribution and delivery on the chain, and builds a betel nut whole life cycle blockchain traceability system. The application service interface includes an anti-counterfeiting verification interface, a data on chain interface, data query interface, and traceability query interface. BNC is the credit mortgage certificate of the e-commerce platform, and merchants need to mortgage the BNC to obtain the corresponding qualifications. All traceable products in the e-commerce platform can be sold on the global e-commerce platform, and can be traced from picking to retail.
  1. The full supply chain financial platform

https://preview.redd.it/sgq4dn7qsnh51.png?width=401&format=png&auto=webp&s=c17ade6143e1aa0219e9516ae4c675c56ac2197d
The full supply chain financial platform connects all companies and financial institutions in the supply chain through the blockchain, connects upstream and downstream, improves the efficiency of capital allocation, supports small and micro enterprises in financing based on the supply chain, reduces financing costs, and deeply activates financial resources. BNC will become the circulation certificate of the supply chain financial platform, supporting small and micro enterprises to finance based on the supply chain. The platform will charge corresponding handling fees, and airdrop dividends to BNC holders based onthe annual handling fee and other profits.
3.Smart Futures Trading Platform
The smart futures trading platform will connect global futures exchanges, and use smart contract—based on blockchain technology to closely link futures exchanges, delivery warehouses, inspection departments, banks, and futures companies to improve process operation efficiency, shorten capital circulation cycles, reduce delivery risks and promote the linkage of futures and spot markets. The smart futures platform will take out 20% of its profits every year for the BNC ecological repurchase. At the same time, holders of BNC ecological tokens can get a fee reduction or exemption for the smart futures platform.
4.Betel Nut Industry Digital Ecological Park

https://preview.redd.it/ah9t1tyrsnh51.png?width=411&format=png&auto=webp&s=707572273eaef7efb2ba1690f5bad313da9fbdee
The betel nut chain will select 21 tourist attractions around the world to create a comprehensive industrial digital ecological park for betel nut intensive processing, biopharmaceuticals, popular science tourism, residential and health care, warehousing and logistics, and betel nut culture, including ecological boutique shopping malls, providing betel nut tea, liquor, pharmaceutical products and other businesses. The eco-industrial park built by Betel Nut Chain will mainly focus on tourism and eco-mall to create a globalized and sustainable eco-industrial system. BNC holders will enjoy membership benefits, and 10% of the profit of the eco-park will be airdropped to BNC holders every year.
5.Diversified scenes application
The Betel Nut Chain will also expand more scenarios of the betel nut industry ecology, and gradually promote diversified application scenarios such as betel nut industry financial insurance, betel nut industry intelligent logistics, and betel nut industry innovation. BNC will open up the above-mentioned multiple application scenarios of the betel nut industry, gradually promote the implementation of applications, promote the circulation of BNC in more fields, and bring ecological development dividends to all BNC holders.
The appreciation logic of BNC
Users who hold BNC will have the right of participating in the voting of governance of The Betel Nut Chain, dividends share, payment preferences, ecological repurchase dividend rights and priority subscription rights. All transactions of BNC holders on The Betel Nut Chain will be exempted from processing fees. The ecological dividend generated by the ecological construction of The Betel Nut Chain will be distributed to all token holders; the governance parameters of the BNC decentralized financial platform will be voted on jointly by all BNC holders, who can also participate in mortgage liquidation to make profits; The Betel Nut Chain will spend 10% of the profits every quarter in the secondary market to repurchase BNC for destruction, and all BNC holders will share the results of ecological value enhancement. BNC holders will have priority trading rights after the launch of betel nut futures derivatives on the smart futures trading platform.
https://preview.redd.it/4j9e8sftsnh51.png?width=554&format=png&auto=webp&s=87046d3b19ff2a313c9ce7408410c64900455fdc
According to the development plan of The Betel Nut Chain, the five ecology will become the largest source of value for the entire betel nut chain. It is estimated that the revenue of the five major ecological sectors will reach 12.6 billion yuan in the following year after The Betel Nut Chain is launched. As the total amount of BNC is fixed, the value of BNC will surely enter an upward channel. According to official estimates, in the next year, the transaction scale of the smart futures trading platform will reach 2 billion yuan, and the value of BNC is expected to exceed 100 yuan; within one and a half years, ecological cooperation institutions will exceed 100, and the sales of betel nut industry will exceed 5 billion yuan. The daily active population of the Betel Nut Chain Mall will exceed 300,000; then the Betel Nut Digital Ecological Industrial Park will be gradually improved, which will attract more users to consume and produce more BNC through consumption mining. Two years later, the ecosystem of the betel nut chain industry will be gradually stabilized, the platform under the chain continues to upgrade, and the ecosystem on the chain continues to grow. It is expected to become the leader of the global betel nut industry, and the price of BNC will exceed 1,000 yuan.

https://preview.redd.it/ankwyikusnh51.png?width=553&format=png&auto=webp&s=2af09226798a8900ad53de995a3554d6a0d72c49
In the future, The Betel Nut Chain will start mining for consumption when the total computing power meet the standards set by the smart contract, and 40% of the BNC in the entire network will be produced through consumption mining. The computing power resources rewarded by the user's consumption can be invested in the computing power pool for mining, and the output BNC will be released in batches. Users can also directly pledge BNC to enter the computing pool to participate in lock-up mining, and jointly maintain the development of The Betel Nut Chain. When the value of BNC continues to increase with the expansion of the industry, mining revenue will also increase, which will surely attract more users to participate in consumption mining and promote the value of the entire betel nut chain ecology.

https://preview.redd.it/8b6kuitvsnh51.png?width=553&format=png&auto=webp&s=8fdc70f8bb35ed68a82a31ffe6a79086b7b1a861
At the same time, The Betel Nut Chain has also taken a series of measures to reduce the circulation of BNC. The smart contract will airdrop 1% of assets to nodes according to the underlying agreement to promote ecological implementation; the betel nut chain will open the boutique betel nut market for BNC holders and launch futures trading, and part of the commission will be used for ecological co-construction; the betel nut chain will also Through the burning repurchase mechanism, the burned BNC will be distributed to miner nodes and users who participate in consumption mining. The pledge destruction mechanism will destroy part of the transaction fees generated in the transaction. The reduction in liquidity will ensure that the value of BNC is in a steady appreciation state.
Summery
The betel nut industry is going to global stage under the impetus of capital and blockchain technology, promoting more advanced industrial technologies and allowing healthier products to be fully penetrated. It is believe that in the near future, betel nut will become the most popular refreshing consumer goods for people all over the world. As an important promoter of healthy betel nuts, the intrinsic value of The Betel Nut Chain will surely increase by a thousand times, creating huge wealth for all users of The Betel Nut Chain! The betel nut industry has set sail, and the value depression is right in front of us, now or never!
